I’m on loan in 2015 to Falkirk from Aberdeen.
We are at home against Rangers, we are unbeaten in seven games and feeling confident. The stadium is packed and the atmosphere is electric as we are awarded a dubious penalty by Willie Collum after three minutes. John Baird is scoring goals for fun and duly sticks it into the back of the net. There’s eighty-seven minutes left and I am thinking, we could get a draw here!
Barrie McKay scores with a volley that I have no chance of saving to make it 1-1 at half-time. Ten minutes into the second-half, Will Vaulks scores against the run of play and suddenly we are in front again. Now, I am thinking, I’m going to get peppered here and I was right. Rangers threw everything at us. I was making good saves and we were blocking everything until Blair Alston tried to clear the ball and it struck his hand with seconds remaining in the game. Penalty!
I don’t study players previous penalties, I just watched Martyn Waghorn’s body angle and dived to my left to tip the ball onto the post. It then rolled right across the goal-line behind my back and away to safety. It’s one of the best nights I’ve had and the feeling was amazing when the ref blew his whistle and the boys are all jumping on me celebrating our 2-1 win.Back to The Football Family

It’s the 7th May 2014, we are at Tynecastle needing a win against Hearts to keep us in the Premier League. It’s my first season as manager and as you can imagine the stress levels are high, as we were one of a number of clubs that could have been relegated that season. The family […]
It’s 2002 Hampden Park, the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen. My two brothers John and Paul are with me at the game and we are so excited about the match. This was a Madrid side that contained Raul, Roberto Carlos, Zidane, Steven McManaman, Claude Makélélé and Luis Figo, all right here […]
It’s the Scottish League Cup Final Aberdeen v Inverness Caledonian Thistle. It’s probably the worst final of all time with the game tied at 0-0. The longer it goes on, the more I am dreading the thought of making a mistake. Aaron Doran has a free kick and I am thinking please don’t stick this […]
Having worked in the media and in football clubs as a Chief executive, you get the chance to meet many special people, some famous, some who just love football and their club. At boardrooms up and down the country, there are no shortage of very famous people walking in the door and without sounding blasé, […]
