02 Apr Sinclair three and easy
Scott Sinclair was delighted to seal Celtic’s Ladbrokes Premiership title win with a hat-trick at a ground where he scored a late winner at the start of his Hoops career.
Just hours after signing for the Parkhead club last August in a £3.5million move from Aston Villa, the 28-year-old came off the bench to clinch a 2-1 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle.
Sinclair was in sizzling form on his return to Gorgie, scoring a first-half double before grabbing his third from the spot late on after Stuart Armstrong and Patrick Roberts stretched the lead further.
The 5-0 win sealed a sixth successive title for the Parkhead club, who are unbeaten domestically this season and who still harbour hopes of a domestic treble, with Sinclair taking his tally for the season to 18.
The former Manchester City player said: “It was a good memory to come off the bench here on my Celtic debut and score the winner and now I’m back and scoring a hat-trick and winning the game and winning the title.
“It means so much to me after all I’ve been through in the last few years, not knowing where my career was going to end up.
“Relegation from Villa was tough and I didn’t know where I was going.
“I was at a stage in my career where I was frustrated I couldn’t show my attributes and what I could do for the team.
“It is great that I’ve come here and shown that week in, week out.
“Obviously, you have the thoughts of what you hope it’s going to be like but this move has worked out even better than I expected .
“The main thing for me was to enjoy football again and I had lost that a bit.
“Now it is for me to keep working hard, keep looking forward and keep performing in games.”
