Brown blasts St Johnstone ticket fiasco

St Johnstone chairman Steve Brown has described the decision not to allocate any further tickets to the club for the Scottish League Cup semi-final against Hibernian at Tynecastle as “outrageous”.

Tynecastle has a capacity of over 17,000 – 3,400 of which were to go St Johnstone, while Hibs were given 11,500. However, it was believed that the remaining briefs would go to Saints.

However, due to increased fears over safety and segregation at Tynecastle the SPFL announced on Monday that the remaining tickets from the main stand would be going to Hibs fans instead.

Brown made sure in no uncertain terms that he felt fans were overlooked.

He told the club’s official website: “β€œThe first thing I want to say is that I fully share in the frustration caused by the delay in the announcement not to allocate Main Stand tickets to Saints fans and I can understand the anger and disappointment of ticketless fans.

“Coming at a time when fan engagement has been recently stated as a key objective for the future of our game I find the timing of this decision – five days before the match – outrageous and I would state that this is totally unacceptable to St Johnstone Football Club.

“I would hope that lessons are learned from this fiasco in order to avoid any repeat of the uncertainty and disillusionment suffered by the people who matter most – the supporters.
