Celtic’s vulnerability gives Killie belief – Higginbotham

Kilmarnock midfielder Kallum Higginbotham says Celtic’s vulnerability at the back gives them confidence they can get a result against the Scottish champions.

Killie travel to Celtic Park after the international break hoping to bounce back from narrow defeats to Motherwell and St Johnstone and boost their chances of a top-six finish.

Higginbotham has cast an eye over the dodgy defending in Europe from Ronny Deila’s men and says that gives Killie belief they could cause an upset.

Asked if he sensed there were goals to be scored against the Hoops, he told Peter and Roughie’s Football Show.

“Yeah, most definitely, especially after they lost Van Dijk to Southampton.

“He was a massive presence in the heart of that defence.

“Every time I played against him it just seemed like he was playing Sunday league football it was that easy for him.

“But they now have to rely on players like Efe Ambrose and he is prone to an error so it does give you that belief that you can go and press against them and maybe get that goal.”

Kilmarnock have improved since the start of the season despite a couple of defeats recently and the 26-year-old puts that down to the hard work the players have put in to try to turn around the club’s form.

“We were still doing double sessions earlier on in the season but I think the togetherness in the squad and the hard work we’re putting in is paying off,” he said.

“Especially in the international breaks when other teams we’re having a few days off and that is showing in the results that we’re picking up.”
