10 Feb Crespo ‘almost enjoys’ Neville’s struggles
Hernan Crespo has admitted he “almost enjoys” watching Gary Neville struggle in management because he believed he was “too harsh” as a pundit.
Former United full-back Neville was widely lauded for his TV punditry bringing an insight and expertise into the game which previously had been missing but his transition from pundit to manager hasn’t been as smooth.
Neville dipped his toes in management in December taking over at Valencia but has gone nine game without a win in La Liga and suffered a crushing 7-0 defeat at Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.
Crespo, now managing at Modena in Serie B after an illustrious career with Parma, Inter and Lazio among others, believes Neville’s struggles highlight how difficult it is.
“To watch a game from the TV, it’s very different than from the bench,” Crespo told FOX Sports.
“I’m almost happy for Gary Neville’s troubles at Valencia. I remember he was too harsh as a TV pundit.”
Neville is under increasing pressure but has vowed he won’t quit at the Mestalla. His side face Barcelona on Wednesday in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.
