Manchester United, David de Gea

De Gea needs to put disappointment behind him, says Ramos

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos believes Spain team-mate David de Gea needs to remain focused and move on from his disappointment.

Manchester United shot-stopper De Gea looked to be on the verge of joining Madrid but the transfer did not go through in time with both United and the Spanish club blaming each other for the move breaking down.

The deal would have also seen Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas move in the opposite direction.

Ahead of Spain’s qualifiers against Slovakia and Macedonia, Ramos urged De Gea , who has a year left on his United deal, to put the disappointment behind him.

“Keylor is relaxed after the support and affection he received the other day.

“I haven’t talked to David and I don’t know what his opinion will be. Life goes on. Nobody’s died. He needs to keep going and keep his form up,” he told reporters.

“He’s had a roller-coaster summer and at the end of the day it’s not normal when others decide your future and that of your family, but that’s what we have to live with and cope with as best as possible. You need to do your best and accept reality.

“I’ve had some days off and haven’t been following things. De Gea isn’t a Real Madrid player and I shouldn’t comment because we have two great keepers. It’s not up to a footballer what happens between clubs.”
