Ahead of the mouthwatering El Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid this weekend, PLZ Soccer reflects on some memorable moments between the two giants of Spanish football…
RONALDINHO’S STANDING OVATION
Not since Diego Maradona had a Barcelona player received a standing ovation from Real Madrid supporters at the Santiago Bernabeu but that’s exactly what happened to Ronaldinho in November 2005 after his outstanding performance in the 3-0 win for Barcelona.
Sometimes you just have to sit and admire a truly great footballer at the peak of his powers as he cut Madrid to ribbons and that’s what the Madridistas did. The Brazilian scored a double as Barca humiliated the Madrid players on their own turf. His first goal was genius, taking the ball past Ramos before baffling Helguera and dispatching the ball past Casillas. Ronaldinho’s arrival at Barca ended a period of dominance enjoyed by los Blancos as the attacker helped Barcelona to two Liga titles and a Champions League.
