The betting company and the football league’s governing body have reportedly been in talks over a possible link-up for months and hope to have deal hammered out by the start of the new campaign.
The league has been without a sponsor since Clydesdale Bank ended its association with Scottish football in 2013.
Snooker and darts promoter Barry Hearn gave a damning indictment of the way the game was being promoted at the end of last year but now it is Betfred – who sponsor Hearn’s World Snooker Championship – who are keen to become involved in the Scottish game.
