Jose Cifuentes is set to start for Rangers against Livingston at Ibrox, although Gers boss Michael Beale is sweating on one or two unnamed players ahead of the game against David Martindale’s side.

Cifunetes made his debut on Wednesday night when he came off the bench against Servette after arriving at the club last week in a four-year deal from Los Angeles FC.

“He is playing tomorrow,” said Beale. “He is a prime example. He didn’t get in until late on the previous Thursday, a bit of jet lag but I wanted him to be on the bench just to see Scottish football. There’s eight substitutes, let’s just get him there so he can understand the environment.

“He has just only moved into his new place the last couple of days so he is in and out of a hotel. I thought he was quite good when he came on the other night in a small glimpse but now I think he is ready.”

Rangers lost their opening game of the season to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park last Saturday although there was an improvement in intensity for the opening half against Servette in the midweek UEFA Champions League qualifier.

Beale, though, has insisted that the players also have to take some responsibility for the pressure that is synonymous with Rangers.

“You have to focus on your work,” he said. “There is a bit of you versus yourself going on every day. We can encourage players but they have got to bring their motivation and their aims to training and they have got to understand that it is a squad game.

“It is important when they get their opportunity that they come in and show what they can do.”
