David Moyes has refused to rule out the possibility of one day managing Celtic but reckons they’ll need to invest heavily if they are to match his ambitions.

Current Hoops boss Ronny Deila has come under increasing pressure after a disappointing campaign in Europe and unconvincing performances domestically which have led to reports that the club’s board are thinking of change in the summer.

Moyes, who played for Celtic as a youngster, has been out of management since being sacked by Real Sociedad last November but admitted a return to Hoops would appeal to him.

“I want to be able to manage the way that suits me. I think I build clubs I think I improve them over the years,” he told PLZ Soccer.

“Everybody knows my time at Celtic was great. I was a young player and played with great players at Celtic. Celtic’s been a great love of mine.

“Who knows, who knows, I would never say never but obviously I’ve got ambitions to win things.

“I’d want to be at a club that would give me every chance to win and be involved in the Champions League and be at the top level.”

The Celtic board will have to decide whether Deila deserves another crack at Champions League football after three previous failed attempts but Moyes reckons the current squad isn’t equipped with enough quality to get into Europe’s premier competition.

“I’m saying this with total respect but I don’t think the Celtic squad is good enough to reach the levels that they want. That’s a no-brainer if you ask me,” he said.

“You can talk about the quality of managers but you have to have the players to get you to that level.

“And if you’ve not got them you have to go and buy them or go out and source them with really good recruitment. I think that’s the key to getting a really good side.”

Moyes believes there is “too much negativity” surrounding the domestic game but seen the positives after watching Ross County’s League Cup final win over Hibernian.

“People say that it’s not very good and we don’t have this and we don’t have that,” he said.

“I thought it was a really good game. I thought Hibs had a great support there and it shows that if we have a big league with Hibs and Hearts as well as the big teams in it we’ve got something that we should be proud of.

“I think everybody in a way is looking forward to Rangers coming back. That is what is needed.

“The Rangers support have stood by them when they’ve been down and gone to the games and Mark Warburton has done a good job bringing them back up.”
