Give Deila more time, urges Rae

Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae urged the Celtic board to give under-fire boss Ronny Deila more time at the club to turn things around.

Deila has come under increasing pressure this season after their treble dreams were ended by Ross County and their league at the top was cut to three points following defeat to Aberdeen.

Those setbacks were on the back of a disappointing European campaign where they also finished bottom of their group in the Europa League, leading fans and pundits alike to question whether or not he is the man to take Celtic forward.

But former Ger Rae and now the current boss of St Mirren insists Deila should be given a chance to transform the fortunes of the Hoops.

“I think Celtic are relatively measured. I don’t think they’ll make a knee-jerk reaction to this. I think he will be given the time and probably rightly so,” he told Peter and Roughie’s show.

“I was talking to someone the other day about this culture we have where we constantly flip managers all the time and no one is ever given a chance to build anything.

“As an example Jackie McNamara did really well at Dundee United for two years. He has a four to six month period where he doesn’t do so great and they change it and their hasn’t been a great upturn in form so far.

“There hasn’t been a great continuity which allows managers to build on and I think we need to get back to that.”
