Hibs midfielder McGinn wins appeal

Hibernian midfielder John McGinn will be available to play against Queen of the South and Rangers after his red card against Falkirk was downgraded to a yellow.

McGinn was sent off by referee Kevin Clancy for serious foul play after he lunged in on Bairns’ midfielder Mark Kerr in the first half of the match at Easter Road on Saturday.

After the game both managers felt that the red card may have been harsh and on Thursday McGinn’s appeal was heard in front of the disciplinary panel.

Hibs argued successfully that there was no malice in the challenge. Hibs boss Stubbs told STV: “It wasn’t a two footed challenge – he’s come in from the side and he is not that type of player.

“The case we put forward we felt was a really good one, it was well put together to highlight that we felt it warranted a yellow [card] rather than a red.

“We’re delighted that the appeal has been successful.

“To have John available for the weekend is great news and a huge lift for everybody.”
