A point to prove for the captain

Skipper Scott Brown wants Celtic to demonstrate their Champions League credentials when they host Manchester City on Wednesday night.

Brendan Rodgers’ side were hammered 7-0 in their Group C opener against Barcelona in the Nou Camp earlier in the month and now come up against the high-flying Sky Blues who have won their first 10 games of the season under new boss Pep Guardiola.

German side Borussia Monchengladbach are also in the section and Brown is determined the Scottish champions will not be propping up the group.

The Parkhead midfielder said: “We’ve got to get that (Barca) out of our mind early.

“This is where this club deserves to be and we need to show that we’re good enough to be in the competition and not just going to be in last place.

“We play against the best players in the world in the Champions League and that’s why we want to be in it.

“We need to show how good we are individually and as a team.

“If we can prove a point tomorrow night that will be good for us.

“We’ll try to frustrate them more than anything. We’ve done that to teams here before and it’s more belief than anything.

“We need to believe in our ability and show that we can play under pressure.”
