Celtic have announced they are set to play in a number of glamour friendlies in the International Champions Cup this summer.
The Hoops will begin the tournament against surprise Premier League leaders Leicester at Celtic Park on July 23.
Seven days later they’ll face Barcelona at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on July 30 and in the 50th anniversary season of Celtic’s greatest triumph – the European Cup in 1967 – they will play Inter on August 13 with the venue still to be confirmed.
The tournament is scheduled to start just three days after Celtic could potentially play a Champions League second round second leg qualifier – should they win the Scottish Premiership – on July 20th.
On July 26-27, the third round Champions League first leg qualifier is scheduled to be played a few days before their glamour friendly with Barcelona on July 30.
“We are delighted to be invited to take part in such a unique and prestigious international tournament and join together with the other great names in world football in what we know will be a fantastic sporting occasion,” Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell said.
“Celtic is proud to enjoy its own global profile and we are sure our involvement with the biggest names in the game will only increase interest in the Club on a global stage.
“It is magnificent news that our supporters in Scotland and Ireland will be able to enjoy such exciting matches and we are sure our participation will be warmly welcomed by our fans who will look forward to Celtic meeting such a high calibre of opposition in Barcelona, Inter Milan and Leicester City.”
Among the other participants in the tournament are Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
