Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong believes Patrick Roberts is worth the hype after being impressed by him in training.
Roberts signed on loan at Celtic on transfer deadline day in an 18-month deal from Manchester City. The 19-year-old comes with some reputation after being signed by City in a £12m deal from Fulham.
And, although he has seen his pathway blocked to the first team by a wealth of world-class stars at the Etihad, Armstrong has seen enough glimpses of the youngster in training to convince him he can become a star for Celtic.
“Yeah I think he’s very talented and you see that in training,” Armstrong said.
“I’ve not seen the development games but I’ve been hearing very good things. He’s scored a few goals as well so I think the hype is deserved.”
Roberts has yet to feature for the Celtic first team but has been a stand-out in the development games grabbing a couple of quality goals and assists and assistant boss John Collins hints that it won’t be long before he is making an appearance for Ronny Deila’s men.
Collins said: “He’s closer this week than last week. He has trained very well and scored a couple of goals for the development team and made one, he is closer. It’s good news.”
