Barcelona full-back Dani Alves launched a two-pronged attack on Real Madrid urging their rivals to be thrown out of the Copa del Rey and denouncing Cristiano Ronaldo as a Ballon d’Or contender.
Madrid find out on Friday whether their 3-1 win over Cadiz will be overturned after fielding an ineligible player.
Denis Cheryshev played in the victory though was still to serve a suspension after picking up three bookings in last year’s competition and Cadiz have reported Madrid to the Spanish FA.
Los Blancos have pleaded their innocence, insisting they were unaware of any wrong-doing but Alves is adamant that Madrid must be punished.
“[I am surprised] by the lack of communication,” he told Cadena COPE.
“These things should not happen at a big club like Real Madrid. If you take the right measures by the rules and previous precedents they should be removed [from the competition].
“They have no worthy defence.”
The Brazilian was highly critical of the final three shortlist for the Ballon d’Or. His team-mates Lionel Messi and Neymar will be on the podium but according to Alves Ronaldo’s place amongst them is unmerited.
“Messi is ahead and Neymar is second because he is in a great moment,” Alves added.
“Cristiano does not deserve to be among the three finalists. Last year he won on merit because he did important things. I think the best player in the world must have a greater influence on the game, and not just score goals. That is what he did last year.
“People forget this is a team sport.”
