Angel Di Maria says a phone call from Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc helped convince him to leave Manchester United and join PSG.
Di Maria left United just 12 months after becoming the most expensive signing in British transfer market history following a £60 million switch from Real Madrid.
However, the Argentina star was unable to settle at United under Louis van Gaal and there were also reports of a break-in at his house, which pushed him further towards the Old Trafford exit.
The 27-year-old has been in impressive form in France and he revealed a phone call from Blanc himself convinced him to join the club.
“The first time we spoke, it was before I signed for PSG. This made me very happy,” he told BeIN Sports.
“It happened the same way when Mourinho made me come to Real Madrid. They called me before and I spoke with them. Blanc called me when he was in the United States and I was still on holiday.
“He said he was very happy to recruit me, that he had wanted me for several seasons. Obviously, this gave me an added incentive to sign for PSG.”
Di Maria created three goals in PSG’s 5-1 thrashing of Lyon on Saturday which helped Blanc’s men go 17 points clear in Ligue 1.
