Richie Foran says he’s delighted manager John Hughes will be staying with Inverness CT.
Hughes was linked with the Dundee United job but the club reportedly refused them permission to speak with their manager.
United announced they have appointed Mixu Paatelainen on Wednesday and club captain Foran admits he’s thrilled Hughes will stay in the Highlands.
“It’s huge for the club,” he said. “They could have easily cashed in but they know how important the manager is to our success so I’m delighted.
“There wasn’t fear that he would leave but there was a little bit talk in the dressing room of whether he would or wouldn’t go.
“I’m glad it was all sorted by Wednesday. We didn’t want it dragging on till Thursday or Friday then it might affect our game on Saturday.
“But It’s happened before with Terry Butcher and other managers so we’re getting used to it.
“What is it about John Hughes? It’s his passion, he’s infectious.
“He just wants to improve players so much he loves football, he’d have us on that training ground 24/7 if he could.
“He’s huge around the training ground, he knows when to have a laugh and when to put an arm around but he also knows when to get serious.
“He’s improved us as players, we’ve spoken about that and we want him to keep improving us. He is meticulous in his planning as well, he’s fantastic to have around the place.
“I hope he signs a new deal the players need him but John Hughes deserves to manage at a big big club.”
