Hearts captain Blazej Augustyn believes the club can snatch the Scottish Premiership title from Celtic as they are not as good as they used to be.
The Polish defender’s comments – which aren’t likely to go down too well with head coach Robbie Neilson who has played down title talk – come after Celtic crashed out of Europe before Christmas following a 2-1 defeat to Ajax – leaving them with no wins in five games in Group A.
And that has given Augustyn optimism that Hearts can outdo the Scottish champions in the title race.
“We can see Celtic are not as good as a few years ago and I don’t think they have a team like they had before,” Augustyn told reporters.
“I think we are good enough to win or stay close to Celtic. We win against good teams and we play good football. We can do it.”
Hearts will look to narrow the gap on Celtic to three points with victory over Motherwell albeit perhaps only for 24 hours as the Hoops play on Sunday at Inverness CT.
