Hearts have knocked back Wigan’s bid for defender Callum Paterson.
Latics boss Gary Caldwell is keen to add the Scotland right-back to his Sky Bet Championship squad.
And according to reports, he is now preparing to up his initial six-figure bid after Tynecastle chiefs rejected Wigan’s opening effort.
Paterson has 12 months left on his Gorgie contract and Hearts boss Robbie Neilson must decide whether to cash in on him now or risk losing the 21-year-old for a vastly reduced compensation fee next summer.
Meanwhile, Hearts are still waiting for FIFA’s decision on whether they will be able to complete the signing of striker Bjorn Johnsen following his move from Bulgarian outfit Litex Lovech.
They had expected an answer by close of business on Thursday but are yet to hear back from the global governing body.
Neilson, though, is hopeful his registration will go through in time for the Norwegian-American to feature against Inverness on Saturday.
