Hearts skipper Christophe Berra makes return to action against Linlithgow Rose

Hearts captain Christophe Berra will be handed a chance to prove his fitness to Craig Levein in a friendly against Linlithgow Rose ahead of Sunday’s clash with Rangers.

The skipper tore his hamstring during his side’s 1-0 win over Celtic in August and was expected to be on the sidelines for six months of the season.

The Scotland defender is aiming to return to the first team for the visit of Steven Gerrard’s side but Jambos boss Craig Levein won’t risk the centre-back if he isn’t up to scratch.

He said: “The plan is for Christophe to play 45 minutes tonight and we will see how he gets on

“Everything has gone well during his rehab so far, he hasn’t suffered any reaction, although he hasn’t been back in full training very long.

“He is an experienced player and he feels he has done a lot of work with the physios, so he feels ready for 45 minutes.

“I’m hoping it all goes well. After that I’ll make the decision for Sunday.”
