Hibernian enjoyed a comfortable victory over Dumbarton in a pulsating game at Easter Road.
Dominique Malonga opened the scoring with an exquisite curling effort from the edge of the box after 20 minutes.
Dumbarton’s response though was immediate as Grant Gallagher equalised, profiting from David Gray’s slack clearance.
That failed to reflect Hibs’ superiority and they did regain the lead as Liam Fontaine bulleted a header home from John McGinn’s set piece.
The Sons gave themselves a mountain to climb as Frazer Wright upended Jason Cummings in the box and the Hibs forward took the penalty himself, dispatching the ball beyond Mark Brown to make it 3-1 before half-time.
James Keatings added a fourth on the hour mark, receiving Lewis Stevenson’s through-pass before drilling a shot into the back of the net.
To Dumbarton’s credit they could have further capitulated but fought back to grab, on what was reflection, a deserved consolation through substitute Steven Craig.
