Hibernian missed the chance to close the gap on Rangers as their winning run came to an end following a 1-1 draw with St Mirren.
Former Light Blues attacker Callum Gallagher opened the scoring for the visitors, twisting and turning before firing a shot into the corner beyond Hibs goalkeeper Mark Oxley.
Gallagher then denied David Gray what would have been an almost certain equaliser at the other end after he slid in to clear the danger from Liam Henderson’s delivery.
Alan Stubbs’ men looked as though their midweek exertions against Aberdeen in the League Cup had taken its toll in the first half but they levelled through a Martin Boyle diving header before the break.
Thereafter, Hibs completely dominated. Lewis Stevenson hit the bar with a cross-cum-shot, substitute Dominique Malonga then missed a header from six yards before Henderson scuffed a glaring opportunity after being played in by Boyle.
However, they were unable to find that elusive winner that their second-half performance perhaps deserved as St Mirren held on for a point.
Meanwhile in the Scottish Premiership, Hearts held Celtic to a goalless draw, who also had Efe Ambrose sent off.
League leaders Aberdeen suffered their first defeat in the Premiership this season as on loan Celtic attacker Ryan Christie got on the scoresheet for Inverness CT.
Ross County squandered a 3-1 lead against Dundee as the Dark Blues rescued a point against the Staggies who were reduced to 10 men.
