Hibernian bounced back from their Petrofac Cup thrashing at the hands of Rangers to knock Montrose out of the League Cup with a 3-0 win
It was only a week after the Edinburgh side were defeated 6-2 by Mark Warburton’s boys but in what was the first competitive fixture at Easter Road, manager Alan Stubbs was pleased with how they responded.
Scott Martin opened the scoring with a right footed drive just after the half hour mark before Scott Allan and Jason Cummings concluded the victory in the second half.
Allan, who has been in the centre of this summer’s transfer saga, was left on the bench for the second consecutive fixture. After just five minutes on the pitch, though, he nestled the ball into the bottom left corner, doubling his side’s lead.
Cummings had the final say on his 20th birthday as he struck eight minutes from time and bagged himself his own celebratory gift.
Stubbs called their first-half performance sloppy but added “It was satisfactory but the second half we were better.”
Hibs will visit Dumbarton next week for their opening Championship fixture while Montrose travel to Berwick Rangers for the League Two clash
