Celtic striker Anthony Stokes has moved a step closer to completing a loan move to Hibernian until the end of the season after the two clubs agreed a deal in principal.
Stokes has been in high demand with Dundee United, Inverness CT and English Championship clubs all interested in the 27-year-old’s signature.
However, Hibs hope to confirm the prolific marksman’s signing before Sunday’s clash against Falkirk with just personal terms to iron out.
Hibs boss Alan Stubbs told the club’s official website: “We’ve made contact with Celtic regarding Anthony Stokes. We’ve agreed in principal with Celtic a deal to hopefully speak to Anthony, we just need to tie one or two things up now with him and his advisor.
“Following that we will hopefully be in a position where we can announce something, but we’re not at that stage yet.”
Stokes has endured a frustrating time at Celtic this season having barely played a game and was suspended by the club for voicing his discontent on social media in December.
The Republic of Ireland striker is out of contract in the summer and will be hoping to make an instant impression if he signs on at Easter Road where he previously netted 25 goals for the club.
Stokes has scored 76 goals in 192 appearances for the Hoops.
