Leigh Griffiths inspired the Hoops to a narrow quarter-final victory over Robbie Neilson’s men at Tynecastle. Arnaud Djoum grabbed a headed consolation for the hosts.

Liam Boyce has proved invaluable to the Staggies this season and he grabbed the opener for County in this match after neat play by Jackson Irvine. Boyce turned provider for the second as Gardyne curled a left-footed drive beyond Greg Fleming.

After the start the respective sides had made to the season not many saw this result coming. Raffaele De Vita added a fourth shortly after the break before Jonathan Franks, Brian Graham and Darren Holden piled the misery on Peter Houston’s men.

Jackson Irvine gave Staggies the advantage in this Highland derby with a glancing header before Gardyne added a second, curling a left-foot effort into the corner. Greg Tansey fizzed an effort from 30yards to halve the deficit but County held on for victory.
