Motherwell legend Stevie Kirk believes Mark McGhee can bring success back to the Steelmen.
McGhee turned around the fortunes of the club from relegation candidates to European contenders in his first spell in charge in 2007 when they finished third.
And Kirk, who scored the winning goal for Motherwell in the Scottish Cup final in 1991, is confident McGhee can work his magic again at Fir Park.
Asked if he thought McGhee would have to win the fans back around because of his move to Aberdeen shortly after, he told Peter and Roughie’s Football Show: “I think he’ll feel he’ll have to win them over because he left.
“He was successful before and I don’t see why he can’t be successful again. The fans need to get behind the team they’ve not had the best starts to the season and back him up.
“He’s been placed in charge and needs the backing of the fans.
“I thought they would start the season flying having a wee jolt [after the play-off win over Rangers] but it turned sour for them under Ian Baraclough.
“McGhee needs to pick up the pieces and charge them back up the league.”
