Southampton boss Ronald Koeman hailed Fraser Forster as a “magic man” and said he is arguably one of the best goalkeeper’s in Europe.
The former Celtic shot-stopper produced a number of fine saves to earn the Saints a point in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal.
It was Forster’s fourth consecutive clean sheet following his return from a serious knee injury, with the England international saving well from Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud as the Gunners peppered Southampton’s goal with 11 shots on target.
And Koeman lavished praise on his goalkeeper.
He said: “Arsenal are so good defensively with a lot of creativity and that’s difficult then, of course, you need a keeper that’s magic and he is magic tonight.
“He is with the national team and he is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and maybe in Europe.”
Meanwhile, opposition goalkeeper Petr Cech believes Forster was the difference between Arsenal not sealing a morale-boosting victory over the side that beat them 4-0 on Boxing Day.
“Fraser Forster robbed a point from us because it was only thanks to him they got a draw here,” he added.
“They did really well in the first half but in the second half we did much better and created a lot of chances, probably the most we have at home this season.”
