Rangers manager Michael Beale described this afternoon’s 4-0 victory over Livingston as a ’step in the right direction.’

Maiden Rangers goals for summer signings Sam Lammers, Danilo, Abdallah Sima and Kieran Dowell helped the Light Blues to a convincing 4-0 win at Ibrox Stadium.

Michael Beale’s men are now off the mark in the cinch Premiership, winning their first home league fixture after a disappointing start to the 2023/2024 campaign last weekend.

“Listen a mixed bag” Beale said “It’s been a rough week behind the scenes in terms of the players going into their first home league game in a season where we’re under a little bit of pressure, or more than a little bit of pressure.

“For the new guys this week they’ve probably rode every emotion, that’s why at the end of the week when I pick the bones out of it, I’ll be more positive than pessimistic in one or two areas.”

Sam Lammers opened the scoring after 10 minutes before Jose Cifuentes thought he had also netted his first Rangers goal 11 minutes later, but the Ecudorian’s strike was disallowed by VAR for a handball infringement.

The second goal didn’t arrive until the 78th minute when Danilo got on the end of a trademark Borna Barisic cross. Substitutes Abdallah Sima and Kieran Dowell added a third and fourth to help Rangers end the match in style, providing four first Rangers goals for four new summer signings.

Unsurprisingly, the Gers boss was delighted with the impact of his new recruits. He added:

“The new guys have scored goals now, Dujon got his debut, Jose was excellent, and Jack Butland’s got his first clean sheet as well. All in all, the week’s ended a lot better than it started.

“There was tension in the stadium, but I just wanted to stay with the front 3 just to see if they could work it out because we had moments.

“So, we’re a work in progress but the last two performances were a step in the right direction for sure.”
