McInnes lauds Aberdeen’s battling instincts

Derek McInnes says Aberdeen showed signs of being a successful team after they grinded out a 1-0 win against Hamilton Accies.

The result helped the Dons to move five points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership following Adam Rooney’s first-half penalty.

And while McInnes admits his side were below par, he was delighted that they battled to get a victory which gives them breathing space from Celtic.

“We dug in and got the job done,” he said. “There’s not a successful team out there that hasn’t had to win a game like that. The performance wasn’t what we’d hoped for, but the outcome is what we wanted.

“The positives are that Rooney has scored again, we’ve got another clean sheet. We’ve got seven wins from seven and move five points clear. We’re delighted with that.”
