Morton have announced that they are ditching their new kit, only four days after it was launched.
The home strip, unveiled to feature a blue band running down the middle and no sign of traditional hoops, was met with scathing feedback from fans who took to online to vent their dissatisfaction.
If the kit wasn’t bad enough, the description for the kit indicated that Morton had been relegated from the Championship…
The club have now taken the decision to scrap the new kit and have moved to give the fans the chance to vote for what design they want to see for the new kit.
In a statement on their website, the club said: “Due to the huge number of emotional appeals to the Club regarding the choice of strip for the forthcoming season, the GMFC board have considered the fans’ views and would like to announce that the new home shirt for the next campaign will be chosen by our loyal supporters.
The Club and Smiths of Greenock have been working tirelessly to explore the options available to us and to meet the tight timescales ahead.
The vote will be launched on Saturday 28th and will close on Monday 30th May with the final choice; the supporters choice being announced on Tuesday 31st May.
We will give supporters the opportunity to vote between a choice of 4 or 5 shirts; these bespoke designs will reflect the feedback we received in all recent communications to the club.
NOTE – This process must happen within these tight timescales as we have to submit the final shirt to the SPFL on Wednesday 1st June
The full voting process will be announced on Thursday 26th May with an exclusive within the Greenock Telegraph.
