Hibs have lifted themselves off the bottom of the table with a convincing 3-0 win over Motherwell.

The Easter Road side leapfrogged rivals Hearts into second bottom, for at least 24 hours, with the Jambos facing Aberdeen at Tynecastle tomorrow.

At Fir Park it was the away side that had the best of the first half and the score line at the break reflected that.

Motherwell looked disjointed and lacking in any real cohesion throughout the entire first 45 minutes.

However, it did take the away side 25 minutes to test Aston Oxborough in the Motherwell goal.

Marvin Kaleta’s cross found Kofi Balmer in the box. His attempted volley flew high over the bar, much to the relief of Motherwell.

David Gray’s men did take the lead on the 29th minute. Nicky Cadden’s cross found Junior Hoilett, who cushioned a volley into the open net, with Motherwell’s stopper Oxborough in no mans land as the ball came in.

Hibs then doubled their advantage just 10 minutes later through Mykola Kukharevych. He bundled the ball over the line after Motherwell failed to clear.

It was a half-time lead deserving of the performance of David Gray’s side, who had come into the game under considerable pressure as they lingered at the bottom of the table.

A double Motherwell change at the break saw Robinson and Watt replace Halliday and Stamatelopoulos.

The 79th minute brought a poignant moment in the stadium when play was halted for a minute’s applause in memory of Jim McDaid.

Hibs added to their tally with a third goal just moments later through substitute Josh Campbell.

Could this be the victory that kick starts Hibs’ season into life?
