02 Dec Neymar to extend Barcelona contract, says father
Barcelona star Neymar will sign a new deal with the club amid reports linking him with Manchester United, according to Neymar Snr.
Speaking at La Liga awards, his father dismissed suggestions that the Brazilian could leave Camp Nou and switch to the Premier League.
Neymar, who has been named in the final three of the Ballon d’Or shortlist, still has two and a half years left on his contract which runs out in the summer of 2018.
But his father, who has previously spoke of tax issues being a stumbling block to a new deal, moved to allay fears of Neymar’s departure.
“We are going to renew with Barcelona, that’s for sure. He has three more years at Barça, so there’s no need for urgency. There’s no rush,” he told Sport.
“We are relaxed and sure that Neymar will continue here for many more years. He is happy in Barcelona and there’s no need for a change.”
Neymar has scored 16 goals in 17 games for Barca this season.
