Motherwell boss Ian Baraclough says Stephen Pearson could be out for seven weeks but the injury is not as bad as they first feared.

Pearson suffered the knee injury in Motherwell’s opening game against Inverness CT after a challenge with Gary Warren, who broke his ankle in the collision.

The midfielder Pearson had gone for a scan on Friday and the results were better than initially expected, Baraclough revealed.

“We’ve had his scan results through. It’s not as bad as first feared,” he said.

“It could have been a lot worse there’s no damage to the cruciate ligaments which is what we first feared.

“It could be five, six, seven weeks every individual is different.

“Pearo has been a quick healer in the past. He goes and does all the right things and lives his life right and will want to be back as soon as possible.

“The good things there is probably two international breaks during the period he is out so that limits the games he will probably miss.”
