Hearts have announced the signing of Austrian defender Peter Haring on a two-year deal.
The 25-year-old has joined the Jambos – subject to international clearance – following the expiration of his contract at SV Ried.
Haring had a clause in his contract with the Austrian club that allowed him to move on after their failure to gain promotion from the second division.
He made 36 appearances during his only season at Ried, and has previously played for Rapid Vienna and SC Austria Lustenau.
Haring will strengthen an already solid backline for the Jambos, with John Souttar, Aaron Hughes and Christophe Berra providing competition for places.
Craig Levein is in the process of overhauling his playing squad after Hearts finished sixth in a difficult first season back in the dugout for the Scot, making Haring the 10th player to join the club since the end of the campaign.
Talks to bring back David Milinkovic on a permanent deal appear to have broken down due to wage demands, with Levein likely to turn his attentions elsewhere after securing the Haring deal.
On completing his move, the Austrian told Hearts TV: “I am really happy to be here. I came here two weeks ago to meet the coach and he showed me around, and now I’m really happy to be here and to be a Hearts player.
“It’s a big chance for me to play for such a big club. I have no problem with the competition (for places).”
