Punters are piling on newly promoted Burnley to produce another Premier League shock winner on the back of Leicester City’s success.
City were 5,000-1 to win the English Premier League at the start of the season but remarkably have gone on clinch the title after Spurs drew 2-2 with Chelsea.
On the same day, Burnley were promoted to the Premier League and were immediately installed as 5,000-1 outsiders to win the league next season but punters have been snapping up those odds, believing lightning can strike twice and dreaming of another big payout.
Bookies are now covering themselves slashing the odds down to 1,000-1 after paying out over £5.6 million to lucky punters who bet Leicester. But there’s been even more bet on Burnley with one bookmaker facing a liability for nearly £10m on Burnley winning the league.
Sky Bet’s Dale Tempest said: “Just 128 backed Leicester at the start of this season and we’ve already got well over a thousand bets on Burnley, making for some pretty frightening reading in our outright book.”
