Wayne Rooney says he’s excited by what the new season has in store for Manchester United under new boss Jose Mourinho and admits he’s more motivated by the Portuguese boss.
The new Premier league campaign kicks off on August 7 against Leicester City as United look to win the title for the first time since 2013 after disappointing campaigns under former boss Louis van Gaal.
The Old Trafford side have brought in Mourinho – who has won the league title three times with Chelsea – and Rooney is eager to impress his new manager.
“I’m really excited to be working with Jose this season as he’s one of the best managers in the world,” Rooney told the official magazine Inside United. “And it’s an exciting time for Manchester United.
“I’ve always respected him both as a man and a manager, he’s a nice guy and one of the most successful managers of all time.
“I like to think I’m always motivated as a player but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit more motivated when a new manager comes in. I’m sure all the lads will be happy to be working under Jose and also eager to impress.”
