Saints appeal against Kerr dismissal

St Johnstone have confirmed that they will appeal against the red card shown to Jason Kerr against Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.

The centre-back was shown a straight red after bringing down Jordan Jones after the Killie winger had raced past him in Saints’ 2-0 defeat at Rugby Park.

The club confirmed on their Twitter account that they had lodged a claim for wrongful dismissal, with the Scottish Football Association following referee Willie Collum’s decision to show the defender red towards the end of the first half.

Manager Tommy Wright had earlier hinted at an appeal – which now means Kerr will be available to face Dundee at Dens Park on Saturday – after suggesting Jones was heading slightly away from goal before he was brought down.

The Saints boss told Press Association Sport: “The ball goes slightly out (away from goal) and it’s slightly on the angle.

“I think there is enough doubt there maybe to say it should have been a yellow. It’s one of those things.”

On Kerr, he added: “He has to learn that in those situations, you are better staying on your feet.

“It was a bit rash and he will learn from it.”
