There are levels in football, and some people might question the level Anthony Stokes has decided to drop to in his quest to play regular first team football.
Hibernian are in the Championship in Scottish football and despite the fact the Irishman had offers from down south, he has opted to play lower league football in Scotland.
This could be a case of Stokes deciding to go somewhere he will be valued and in other ways a place that reminds him of happier times.
Let’s be honest, if it is a step back to maybe take two steps forward, it won’t be at Celtic. There’s no doubt in my mind his days are up under Ronny Deila or anyone else at the Premiership champions. This will be a shop window to a move elsewhere or maybe a longer stint at Hibernian.
One thing is certain, despite all the nonsense that surrounds Stokes, Alan Stubbs is more than happy to get the striker on loan.“Anthony is a fantastic footballer and will really strengthen the squad.
“We have a number of options in attack and real competition for places which is what every manager wants.
“We are excited about Anthony coming here and I think he will prove to be a real asset.”
I can’t disagree. This could be the masterstroke that allows Hibs to make a real fight of the race for the title against the other contenders Rangers and Falkirk.
In one season at Easter road, Stokes scored 24 goals in 45 starts and 2 sub appearances.
Providing the Easter road outfit can fend off any interest in Jason Cummings, this could be a lethal partnership for the title run in.
Whether it is enough to beat the firepower of Waghorn and Miller at Rangers is open to debate, but it certainly makes it interesting.
Stokes isn’t a bad boy, he’s just a silly one.
He is still only 27 and more than capable of bagging a good few goals at this level.
It was really nice of Celtic to do Hibernian a real favour letting him go there, don’t you think?
