Wilson delighted with quiet critics

Rangers defender Danny Wilson felt his side “shut a few people up” at Celtic Park after some “ridiculous” pre-match predictions.

Frank McAvennie claimed before the match that Celtic could have a record eight-goal haul in their sights while his former Hoops team-mate, Andy Walker, labelled Rangers “timid”.

But Rangers fought back at Parkhead to claim a 1-1 Ladbrokes Premiership draw on Sunday.

Wilson, who impressed after being recalled for the suspended Rob Kiernan, told Rangers TV: “There was a lot written, there was a lot said about us and going into it people were saying there was going to be a record score and things like that – it was just ridiculous.

“As players we couldn’t let that happen and we went over there with a game plan and I feel like it worked and on another day we could have taken the three points.

“It felt more positive than negative after the game but it still wasn’t a win which we were looking for but we all enjoyed it and we all think this could maybe be a wee turning point for us.

“I don’t think there has ever been a time when we have not felt together as a team or squad.

“It just felt on Sunday that there was so little expected of us, rightly or wrongly, and it gave us that extra bit to shut a few people up and in the main we showed that at the weekend.”
