12 Dec Motherwell 3-1 Dundee: Steelmen out of relegation zone
By Derek Clark at Fir Park
Mark McGhee’s side recorded an impressive and well deserved three points that sees them leapfrog Kilmarnock into tenth in the Premiership.
The Steelmen opened the scoring after just 6 minutes when Scott McDonald slotted the ball home from close range.
Louis Moult doubled their advantage on 31 minutes when he bulleted a header past Scott Bain from a corner.
The Lanarkshire side could’ve been out of sight by half-time with Moult crashing a header off the upright and Pearson and Lasley forcing good stops out of the Dundee keeper.
The Dark Blues were given a lifeline on 68 minutes when substitute Gary Harkins coolly slotted home after great work from Kane Hemmings.
Greg Stewart really should’ve drew the sides level when he was guilty of missing a close range header.
And Stephen Pearson put the icing on the cake in stoppage time when he converted a Louis Moult cross.
It was Motherwell’s first win since Hallowe’en and goalscorer Louis Moult was delighted.
“Its a massive win, we should’ve been three up at half time.
“It’s a relief to move up the table.”
Its now eight games without a victory for Dundee and boss Paul Hartley said afterwards.
“We’re not starting games well enough, we’re on a bad run at the moment and we need a win.”
