Celtic: "Nothing will change until everything changes"
The Football Show panel asks what Brendan Rodgers would say on a return to Glasgow, then turns to the Celtic AGM a year after last year's was abandoned.
By PLZ Soccer,
A year on from Brendan Rodgers leaving Celtic after a 3-1 defeat at Hearts, The Football Show turned its attention to what the former manager might say if he comes back to Glasgow.
Peter Martin, Stephen McGowan and Gordon Parks considered why Rodgers would come back at all, and what he would do if he did. The question put on the show was a blunt one: "Do you declare war on Dermot Desmond?"
It is a question that goes to the heart of how Rodgers' departure from Celtic is still viewed, and whether he would choose to set out his side of the story in public.
The Celtic AGM
The discussion then moved to the club's annual general meeting, 12 months after last year's was abandoned. The panel looked at when this year's meeting will take place and whether it could be held online.
Assessing where things stand a year after that abandoned meeting, the verdict offered on the show was: "I think they're worse off".
On what the shareholders should do when they next get the chance, one line stood out: "that does not come with shouting". The point, in other words, was about how shareholders go about pressing their case rather than whether they should.
A call for change
The panel also heard that "The Celtic fans want change", before arriving at the line that summed up the discussion: "nothing will change until everything changes".
Taken together, the segment framed Celtic as a club still dealing with the fallout of the past year, from the manner of Rodgers' exit to the abandoned AGM, with the coming meeting another test of where the shareholders and the board stand.
