Evanilson and Adli give Bournemouth a 2-0 win over Leeds United
Bournemouth beat Leeds United 2-0 at Dean Court on Matchday 9, ending a run of two draws between the sides and keeping a clean sheet in the fixture.
By Harvey Watkins,
Bournemouth beat Leeds United 2-0 at Dean Court on Saturday afternoon. Evanilson scored after 31 minutes and Amine Adli added a second in the 95th minute. It was the home side's first win over Leeds since April 2023, and the first time in five meetings that Leeds had failed to score against them.
How the goals came
Evanilson's opener came just past the half-hour, and it was the only goal for a long time. From the 31st minute until deep into stoppage time the margin stayed at one, which meant Leeds were a single goal from a point for more than an hour of play. A 1-0 lead is the most fragile scoreline in the game, and this fixture has a history of late swings and high totals. Nothing about the recent meetings suggested a narrow lead would be safe.
Adli settled it in the 95th minute. Coming as late as it did, his goal decided the outcome rather than simply widening the margin. Until then a single goal for Leeds would have levelled the match. Afterwards there was no way back.
A change from the recent pattern
What stands out most is how unlike the previous meetings this one was. The four games before it produced 20 goals between them, an average of five a match. In the most recent two the sides shared four goals each, drawing 2-2 at Elland Road in September 2025 and 2-2 at Dean Court in April 2026. Before that came a 4-1 Bournemouth win in April 2023 and a 4-3 Leeds win in November 2022.
Against that background a 2-0 is notably tight, and the clean sheet is the real departure. Leeds had scored at least once in each of the previous four meetings, and at least twice in three of them. Bournemouth, for their part, kept up their own habit. They have now scored two or more in each of the last five meetings with Leeds.
The longer view of the fixture
- Bournemouth are unbeaten in the last four meetings with Leeds United: two wins and two draws.
- Leeds' most recent win in the fixture was the 4-3 at Elland Road in November 2022.
- Bournemouth have not lost to Leeds in the three most recent meetings at Dean Court, winning two of them.
None of this should be overstated. Five meetings spread across four years is a small record, and the sides have met in different circumstances each time. A run of draws can turn into a run of wins or losses without anything fundamental changing. What can be said is that the recent balance of the fixture has tilted towards Bournemouth, and this result tilted it further.
What the result amounts to
On the scoreline alone, this was a controlled win more than a dominant one. The second goal came only at the very end, and for most of the match the outcome hung on a single goal. Bournemouth took the three points and the clean sheet. Leeds left without a goal against this opponent for the first time in the five most recent meetings.
