Hoffenheim beat Lyon 3-0 after two goals in the 49th minute
Kramaric and Daghim struck in the same minute after the break, Hlozek added a third, and Hoffenheim kept Lyon scoreless in the Europa League.

Hoffenheim beat Lyon 3-0 at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena on Thursday night in the third round of Europa League matches. The match turned on a single minute early in the second half. Andrej Kramaric and Adam Daghim both scored in the 49th minute, and Adam Hlozek added a third in the 83rd to complete a comfortable-looking scoreline.
Level at the interval
All three goals came after the restart, so the sides went in at half-time with nothing between them. Whatever the opening 45 minutes held, neither team turned it into a lead. At that point the evening was still entirely open, and a draw or a narrow result either way would have looked as plausible as what followed.
Two goals in the 49th minute
Kramaric opened the scoring four minutes into the second half. Daghim then scored a second within the same minute. Two goals that close together are uncommon at any level, and they changed the shape of the night completely. Lyon went from level to two goals behind before the second half had properly begun, and were left needing two just to draw with more than 40 minutes to play.
They did not find even one. Hoffenheim's clean sheet was as much a part of the result as their goals. Having taken the lead so abruptly, they kept it intact for the rest of the match.
Hlozek removed any doubt
Hlozek's goal in the 83rd minute made it three, with seven minutes of normal time remaining. At 2-0, a single Lyon goal would have made the closing stages uncomfortable for the home side. At 3-0, there was no realistic way back. It also meant three different Hoffenheim players got on the scoresheet, so the result did not rest on one individual.
A different story from the last meeting
The only previous meeting between the clubs came on the same ground on 7 November 2024, and it finished 2-2. On that occasion Lyon scored twice; this time they did not score at all, and Hoffenheim won by three.
It would be a stretch to draw a pattern from two matches. What can be said is that the earlier game showed Lyon are capable of scoring in this fixture, which makes their blank here more notable rather than less.
What the scoreline says, and what it does not
A 3-0 win with a clean sheet is a clear result, and Hoffenheim earned the margin on the scoreboard. It is also worth remembering how it was built. For the whole first half and the opening minutes of the second the sides were level, and the decisive spell lasted no more than a minute. The final score reflects that minute and Hoffenheim's ability to protect what it gave them, rather than 90 minutes of one-way traffic.
For Hoffenheim, the takeaways are goals from three different players and no goals conceded. For Lyon, the concern is how quickly a level match got away from them, and that they had no reply over the remaining 40 minutes.
