Konsa and Gabriel score as Arsenal beat Everton 2-0

Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Matchday 8, with goals from Ezri Konsa and Gabriel, and stretched their unbeaten run in this fixture to six.

By Harvey Watkins,

Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Ezri Konsa scored in the seventh minute and Gabriel added the second in the 68th. It was the same scoreline as the last meeting between the clubs on this ground in March, and the result keeps a long-running pattern in this fixture intact.

An early lead that stood for an hour

Konsa's goal came early enough to shape everything that followed. Arsenal led from the seventh minute, and for just over an hour that single goal was the only thing separating the sides. A one-goal margin held for that long is never entirely secure. Everton remained within a goal until the 68th minute.

Gabriel's goal changed that. A two-goal lead with a little over 20 minutes left is a different proposition, and Everton did not find a way back into the match. Arsenal finished with a clean sheet as well as the win.

Six meetings without an Everton win

This result fits closely with recent history. Including Saturday, Arsenal are unbeaten in the last six meetings between the clubs, with four wins and two draws. The last three meetings have all been Arsenal wins: 1-0 at Everton in December 2025, 2-0 at the Emirates in March 2026, and now 2-0 again.

The defensive side of the record is the most striking part. Everton have not scored against Arsenal in the last three meetings, and they have managed two goals in the last six in total. Arsenal have kept four clean sheets across that run. These have rarely been high-scoring matches, with Arsenal scoring eight goals over the six games and never more than two in any one of them.

Everton's better days in the sequence came in a 1-1 draw at home in April 2025 and a goalless draw at the Emirates in December 2024. Both showed that this fixture can be tight. Neither has been followed by an Everton win.

The Emirates record in this fixture

The four most recent meetings at the Emirates read 2-1, 0-0, 2-0 and 2-0, all in Arsenal's favour or level. Everton have scored once in those four visits, in May 2024.

What the result tells us

A 2-0 home win over a side Arsenal have dominated in this fixture is a solid result rather than a surprising one. The early goal meant Arsenal were never behind, and the second removed most of the doubt. Everton will see more reason for concern in the scoring record against Arsenal than in any single result. One goalless afternoon is easy to explain. Three in a row against the same opponent is a pattern.

It is still only one match, eight rounds into the season, and the head-to-head record says nothing about how either side has fared against anyone else. On the narrow question of Arsenal against Everton, the evidence keeps pointing the same way.
