By PLZ Soccer,
On The Football Show, Bernard Ponsonby looked back on Fergus McCann and the Celtic share issue, recalling two stories McCann told on camera about the supporters who backed it.
The first concerned supporters queuing in the rain for the share prospectus after a League Cup final defeat. The second involved a man holding up a baby as Celtic's youngest supporter.
Both stories point to the same thing: the share issue as McCann saw it, through the people who bought into it. On the share issue, McCann said: "I cannot let these people down".
Ponsonby's view of McCann
Ponsonby described McCann as direct, and as someone who was not one to be kicked around.
For a figure often remembered for his business approach at Celtic, the stories Ponsonby recalled put the focus on what McCann said about the supporters themselves, and the sense of obligation he expressed towards them.
