Steven Pressley makes case as Premiership's best manager
On The Journos, Peter Martin, Hugh MacDonald and Gordon Parks assess Steven Pressley's work at Dundee and ask whether Rangers need to be more streetwise.
By PLZ Soccer,
Steven Pressley has gone from a "joke figure" at Dundee to a contender for the title of best manager in the Scottish Premiership, according to the discussion on The Journos.
Peter Martin, Hugh MacDonald and Gordon Parks were asked to pick the best manager in the division, and much of the conversation centred on what Pressley is building at Dens Park. The starting point was blunt: "He was the Liz Truss of the SPFL."
Pressley was a "joke figure" when he arrived at Dundee. The club are now fourth in the league, and the panel looked at what lies behind that rise, including the four years at Brentford on his record and the presence of Gordon Strachan as a mentor.
Strachan's role at Dens Park
The Journos also considered Gordon Strachan's role at Dundee and his place alongside Pressley as the club has climbed the table.
Rangers and the title race
The panel then turned to Rangers after the 2-2 draw at Dens, a result in which Derek McInnes's side threw away two points. The question put to Martin, MacDonald and Parks was whether Rangers need to be a bit more streetwise if they are to stay in the title race.
Managers under pressure
Looking ahead to the weekend, the panel discussed the managers under pressure, with Stephen Robinson, Craig McLeish, Motherwell and Hibs all part of the conversation.
Hugh MacDonald also named a match of his own: "That's the game for me".
