No-brainer to join Celtic, insists Cole

Carlton Cole says it was a “no-brainer” to join Celtic and admitted his relief at finally putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.

The former England international striker has been training with the Hoops for a number of weeks and, despite interest from the Middle East, MLS and English Championship side Bolton, he insisted there was no other place he wanted to be.

“It’s a big relief just to be part of such a big club. When Celtic called and said they wanted me at the club I just ran over,” he said.

“Being at Celtic is not about the money. It’s about wearing the shirt with pride. It was the same at West Ham. The fans will take to you if you do that.

“I’ve had everyone explaining to me, including the taxi man, how much the club means to them and I want to hopefully be a hero to some.

“Celtic are in a great position to win trophies and I want to add that to my career. It’s a family club too that’s one thing you can’t forget. Everybody connected to the club wants them to do well.

“There were other clubs interested in me but it was a no-brainer to join Celtic.”

Cole was released by West Ham this summer after scoring 68 goals for the Hammers during a nine-year spell. The 32-year-old also played with Chelsea and Aston Villa.
