Ozil: Arsenal can cope with ‘crazy’ fans

Mesut Ozil believes Arsenal have the mentality to handle a hostile atmosphere against Olympiakos and secure their place in the last-16 of the Champions League.

The Gunners head to Greece knowing they must win by a two-goal margin on matchday six after a stuttering start has forced them to play catch-up in Group F.

Arsene Wenger’s side are hoping to make it a 16th successive attempt at qualifying for the last-16 but, without the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla, the German concedes it will be an uphill battle.

“It will be very, very hard,” he told the club’s official website.

“Olympiakos can play good football and we saw that at the Emirates. They want to play on the counter-attack but we can’t concede goals like we did before again.

“The fans will be behind them and our goal has to be to beat them. I have played in Greece before. I know that there will be a very good atmosphere, the fans are crazy and they really support their team right through the full 90 minutes.

Ozil has been in scintillating form with 12 assists in 14 games for the English Premier League outfit and he knows they will all have to be on top form to silence the Karaiskakis Stadium.

“We have to be focused on the game, we have to give a really good performance,” he said.

“It is possible to win there with two goals in our favour and that’s what we want to do. We have to really give everything so that we can achieve this and get through to the next round.”
