Partick Thistle ended their Scottish Premiership jinx after a late strike from Steven Lawless gave them victory against Inverness CT at Firhill.

The Jags hadn’t put back-to-back victories together in the top flight since May 2004 and were made to wait almost to the end to see if they could halt that run.

But it was worth it for the hosts as Lawless’ effort was fizzed into the bottom corner after a neat knockdown by substitute Lyle Taylor and it was no less than they deserved.

Perhaps more importantly for Alan Archibald’s men it eased any concerns about being dragged into a relegation play-off battle as they moved nine points clear of 11th-placed Motherwell.

But it was a disappointing day for the visitors Inverness, who lacked the imagination and creativity to break down Partick’s resistance.

Scottish Premiership Round Up

Celtic moved five points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after a convincing 3-0 victory over Dundee United.

It was the fourth time the sides had met in a fortnight but United looked no closer to grabbing a victory in the mini series.

Gary Mackay-Steven put the hosts ahead before Jason Denayer and John Guidetti made it 3-0 before half-time to extinguish any hopes of a United victory in Glasgow.

Aberdeen missed the opportunity to pressure Celtic at the top of the table after a 1-1 draw against Dundee.

Adam Rooney opened the scoring but Stephen McGinn equalised to grab a share of the spoils at Dens Park.

Ross County continued their remarkable run of form to register a fifth win in six unbeaten games after a 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock.
